This new page introduced in 2023 is used to catalogue any footpath for which Essex Highways has issued some form of closure notice.

Ardleigh: Bridleway 13 which runs 228 metres linear down to the edge of the reservoir is barred by a two-metres high fence and pin-pad gated entry. According to Essex Highways it has been blocked since 2011.

Ardleigh: Footpath 18 is closed and obstructed by a house constructed on site in the early 1990s with planning approval from Tendring District Council. It's with Essex Highways, although it is unlikely realistically that the path with ever be reinstated.

Ardleigh: Footpath 27 now only leads to the closed New Hall railway foot crossing, which has been closed temporarily to the public for years, although only officially since 21/9/2017. Its closure by late 2024 is permanent, as Network Fail has removed the crossing along with its warning lights and erected a two metre high wire fence.

Boxted Bridge: The bridge is temporarily closed to all traffic, including pedestrians - click here for Essex Highways article. 

Elmstead: To close temporarily Footpath 2, Elmstead in the District of Tendring from a point approximately 558 metres west of Footpath 1, Elmstead for approximately 64 metres west. The closure is scheduled to commence on 01 January 2025 to 30 June 2025 or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting. The closure is required for the safety of the public while the construction of a Borrow Pit is undertaken. click here for ECC notice

Great Clacton: Temporary closure of remote footway between Jaywick Lane and Risby Close in Clacton on 2nd July until 4th July 2024 or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting. click here for ECC notice

Great Oakley: Temporary closure of Footpath 13, Great Oakley in the District of Tendring, from its junction with B1414 Harwich Road for approximately 295 metres to its junction with Great Oakley FP 11. The closure is scheduled to commence on 9 April 2025 for six months, weather permitting, or where appropriate signs are showing and is required for the safety of the public due to a dangerous steep slippery slope down to a ditch. Mistley: Temporary closure of Footpath 29, Mistley in the District of Tendring, from its junction with Footpath 30 in a predominantly south west direction for approximately 100 metres effective from 4th March 2024 and may continue in force for six months or until the path has been made safe, whichever is the earlier - click here for the ECC Notice.

Weeley: Temporary closure of Footpath 3 Weeley from a point 56 metres north of Footpath 5, north then east for approximately 348 metres and Footpath 4 Weeley from its junction with Footpath 5 north west for approximately 125 metres Weeley has been continued in force with the consent of the Secretary of State for the Department for Transport until 24 August 2025 while construction works are completed.
